2025 Yellowknife Aurora Package Tour Review
🌌 Yellowknife Aurora Package Tour Review & Tips
One of the bucket list items I’ve always wanted to check off in Canada was to see the Northern Lights! In March 2025, I finally went on an Aurora Package tour in Yellowknife. In this post, I’ll share my actual experience along with travel tips and preparation advice.
📍 Why I Chose This Package – I Picked the Aurora Village!
In Yellowknife, there are two options for Aurora viewing:
- Aurora Village, where you observe the lights from a fixed location, and
- Aurora Hunting, where you travel around looking for the best spots.
After researching, I found that 2025 is one of the best years to see the Aurora. So, I chose the option where I could comfortably lay down and enjoy the lights at Aurora Village.
🧖♀️ It was so relaxing to rest inside a warm tipi tent and then step outside to witness the stunning Aurora!
🕰️ What to Do During the Day?
Since the Aurora is visible at night, you’ll have plenty of free time during the day.
- If you want to relax: Sleep in and take a leisurely walk to nearby restaurants for meals 🍽️.
- You can also buy snacks and treats at local souvenir shops or the supermarket 🛍️.
- If you want to be active: You can participate in activities included in the package (like dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice fishing, etc.)! Experience Canada's winter while enjoying nature ❄️.

❄️ What’s the Weather Like? What Should You Wear?
It’s really cold at night while waiting for the Aurora. Although the tent is warm, it gets freezing if you stay outside too long, and your fingers may get numb.
💡 During the peak Aurora times, there were many moments when I wanted to lie down and watch the sky, but I couldn’t stay outside for too long because it was too cold. Layering up is extremely important!
Checklist for Winter Gear
- Thick winter coat (long winter coats are recommended)
- Thermal wear / Heattech
- Neck warmer & Beanie
- Winter gloves & Boots
- Multiple hand warmers
📸 Photography Tips
📷 Flash is strictly prohibited! (It may disturb others) When taking pictures of the Aurora, your face may appear too dark. So, it’s a choice between focusing on your face or the Aurora! A camera with a tripod and long exposure features is perfect for capturing the lights.
🚐 Convenient Shuttle & Pickup Service
The package I took included shuttle buses that picked me up from the airport, took me to the accommodation, the Aurora viewing site, and activity locations. The shuttle service was perfectly punctual, making it easy for solo travelers as well.
Traveling with a group made it easier to handle the extremely cold weather, and we could rely on each other in that tough environment.
🚖 Transportation Info – No Uber! Here’s the Taxi Info
Yellowknife does not have Uber. For personal transportation, you need to call a taxi. Here are the numbers you’ll need:
📞 Main Taxi Company Contact Numbers
- City Cabs: +1 (867) 873-4444
- Yellowknife Cabs: +1 (867) 766-4444
🥰 Final Thoughts
The moment the Aurora filled the sky was truly indescribable. Sometimes, seeing it with your own eyes is more breathtaking than through a camera lens.
Yellowknife is the perfect place for a relaxing daytime and a perfect night. If you’re planning a trip, this might be the best year for it! With good preparation, it will be an unforgettable trip of a lifetime ✨.
