🏠 My Unexpected Stay at EC Lodging – A Cozy Night in Yellowknife

On the day of my flight to Yellowknife, I realized on the way to the airport that I had booked the wrong date — I was arriving one day earlier than the rest of my group! 😱

In a panic, I searched for accommodations, but most hotels and guesthouses were fully booked. Only one place had a room left — EC Lodging, a shared house located in the uptown area of Yellowknife.

It was a shared room setup and cost around $120 CAD per night at the time. Yellowknife is a small and chilly town with no Uber service and only a few restaurants, so I ended up staying indoors all day.

The host was extremely kind, and the house was very clean and tidy. I especially loved the huge window in the living room, where I sat and peacefully watched the snow fall. It was such a beautiful, calm moment.

🤝 Shared House Vibes

One of the best things about staying in a share house?
You get to meet other travelers or even locals! I met !

The host was incredibly kind — they:

  • Recommended places to visit 🗺️
  • Helped me order food 🍕
  • Even let me borrow a phone charger 📱⚡

It made the solo experience feel a lot less lonely.

💤 Peaceful Atmosphere

Although it was a shared space, everyone seemed to be just passing through.
No loud noises or parties — most people came to sleep and rest before moving on.
It was surprisingly quiet and relaxing!

💡 Final Thoughts

The only downside was that my bed was a bunk bed. But honestly, if you're okay with the minor inconveniences of a shared house, this is a great value option for longer stays — especially if you're in Yellowknife to chase the northern lights! 🌌

We could explore during the day and hunt auroras at night by car, making it a budget-friendly and fun solo adventure.
